Parents have contacted us who have been asked to provide consent to their child completing a Survey on Face Mask Wearing. The Survey has been drawn up and circulated by Hub na nÓg. The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration, and Youth (DCEDIY) set up Hub na nÓg to support implementation of the National Strategy on Children and Young People’s Participation in Decision-Making (2015-2020).
The role of Hub na nÓg is stated on their website as:
‘Supports Government Departments, State agencies and non-government organisations to give children and young people a voice in decision-making with a particular focus on those that are seldom-heard’
We find it interesting that Hub na nÓg has been SILENT on giving ‘children and young people a voice in decision-making’ over the past 22 months.
Why has a Survey never been conducted on Secondary School children over the past 16 months? Why is a Survey now been contacted on Primary School children if the Face Mask requirement is apparently coming to an end soon?
Why are Primary School children being asked what could make wearing a mask EASIER and if they are HAPPY to continue wearing a mask?
THE CONTINUATION OF THE FACE MASK POLICIES FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS ARE NOT JUSTIFIED, NECESSARY OR PROPORTIONATE. IT IS AN INDICTMENT ON OUR IRISH SOCIETY THAT IT IS CONSIDERED ACCEPTABLE THAT CHILDREN SIT ALL DAY EVERY DAY IN THE CLASSROOM MASKED WHILST ADULTS SOCIALISE IN CAFES, PUBS, RESTAURANTS AND CLUBS UNMASKED. A CHILD’S WELFARE COMES FIRST. CHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRED TO WEAR FACE MASKS TO MAKE THEIR TEACHERS FEEL SAFE OR BECAUSE OF INTO THE TEACHERS’ TRADE UNION’S LOBBYING POWER.
IF CHILDREN ARE AT RISK THE RESTlCTIONS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN LIFTED..AFTER ALL THE EXAMINER REPORTED LEO VARADKAR AS STATING ON 12th AUGUST THAT:
‘I’d love to go to the pub … but they’re not as important as schools’
THE PUBLIC HEALTH RATIONALE AT THE TIME WAS THAT PUBS SHOULD REMAIN CLOSED TO REDUCE COMMUNITY TRANSMISSION. CHILDREN HAVE BEEN THE VICTIM OF COVID 19 RESPONSE MEASURES FOR TOO LONG.
A CHILD’S WELFARE COMES FIRST.
